Eric Ronald Mitting was born on July 22, 1932 to William Thomas "Harold" Mitting and Flora Elaine (Howells) Mitting Griffiths, and had siblings Valda Jean (Mitting) Hunt Stapleton Johnson, Allan Mitting, Phyllis Elaine (Mitting) Mason, Ernest Frank Mitting, Evan Harold Mitting, and John Mervyn Thornton Mitting. He married Shirley Joan (Firth) Mitting, and had children Lisa Mitting, Gillian (Mitting) Casey, Cheryl Ann Mitting, and Ken Mitting. Eric Mitting died at age 82 years old on May 30, 2015, and was buried at Frankston Memorial Park 63 Cranbourne Rd, in Frankston, Frankston City County, VIC Australia.

Her first small part in a movie was in There's One Born Every Minute in 1942 but her first starring role was in National Velvet in 1944. She became as famous for her 8 marriages (to 7 people) as she was for her beauty and films.

In 1944, Eric was just 12 years old when on June 22nd, the Servicemen's Readjustment Act of 1944, called the G.I. Bill, was signed into law, pushed through by the veteran's organizations. Benefits provided for veterans to return to school (high school, vocational school, or college), obtain low interest home mortgages and low interest business loans, and (if needed) one year of unemployment insurance. Since most returning vets immediately found work, less than 20% of the unemployment benefits were distributed.
