Ernest Percy Lee of Cheltenham Australia was born in 1866 in Walhalla, VIC to Elizabeth Ellen (Dougheny) Lee and Thomas George Percy Lee. He had siblings Harcourt John Lee, Amenia Mary Lee, and Thomas George Lee. He married Jessie Ann (Wright) Lee, and had children Francis Percival Lee, Irene Elizabeth (Lee) Engelhardt, Ernest John Lee, Jessie Ellen Dulcie Lee, Kathleen Dorothea Lee, and Thomas Gordon Lee. Ernest Lee died at age 84 years old on January 27, 1951 in Cheltenham, Victoria, and was buried at Fawkner Memorial Cemetety.

In 1886, Ernest was 20 years old when on June 13th, the "Great Vancouver Fire" destroyed most of Vancouver, British Columbia. A small brush fire got out of control and spread to the rest of the city. Dozens of people died and it was only after the fire that money was raised for a fire hall. The local Squamish tribe rescued people who had jumped into bodies of water to escape the conflagration.
