Ernest Roy Castimore Jr. was born on October 4, 1955 in Newton, Sussex County, New Jersey United States to Eva Maria Castimore and Ernest Roy Castimore, and had siblings James David Castimore, Ruth Ann Hill, Steven Anthony Castimore, and Evans Mason Castimore. He married Teresa Cathy Longo on October 11, 1980 in Newton, Sussex County and they later divorced in 1992 in Newton. He had children Christine Marie Wisniewski, Ernest Roy Castimore III, Keisha Lindsay Castimore, and Josey Wales Castimore. Ernest Castimore died at age 62 years old on November 5, 2017 in Freeville, Tompkins County, NY, and was buried on November 20, 2017 in Dryden.

In 1964, when he was merely 9 years old, in June, three young civil rights workers - Andrew Goodman and Mickey Schwerner from New York City, and James Chaney from Meridian, Mississippi - were kidnapped and murdered in Mississippi. Working with "Freedom Summer", they were registering African-Americans to vote in the Southern states. Their bodies were found two months later. Although it was discovered that the White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, the Neshoba County Sheriff's Office and the Philadelphia, Mississippi Police Department were involved, only 7 men were convicted and served less than six years.
