Esther (Johnson) McCann of LISMORE, NSW Australia was born in 1860 in Ballarat to Lavina (Roberts) Johnson and John Johnson. She had a brother Joseph James Johnson. Esther McCann died at age 77 years old in 1937 in Lismore Heights.

    John Johnson and Lavinia Roberts were her parents. Her mother died when she was 12. Her father remarried. She was married at 16 to Charles William McCann. She had 2 boys and was pregnant with the last of their girls, Esther, my grandmother when her husband died by drowning. She later married her first husband's brother, John Beale McCann and had one other daughter Catherine Agnes. She is buried on Alphadale road next to her husband and other children and grand children

In 1860, in the year that Esther Johnson was born, on February 26th, near Eureka California, white settlers attacked a tribe of Wiyot Indians on Indian Island. Over 60 women, children and older people died. Bret Harte - a writer and friend of Mark Twain - reported the news about the massacre to the papers in San Francisco.
