    Her son Harold was born in 1914 to unmarried parents who had the surname Williams in common but were not related. Harold was given up as a destitute child at 6 months, made a ward of the state, fostered to and later adopted in 1921 by Frank Forrest Samuel Gibbs and Ellen Jane (Jean) Gibbs formerly Caple (nee Reid) Ethel first marriage was to David Leslie Lucas in Melbourne in 1922. Ethel petitioned for divorce in Victoria in 1925. In 1928, Ethel formerly of 226 Clarendon St East Melbourne, now of parts unknown, was given notice by legal advertisement in WA that her husband in Ballarat had petitioned for divorce on the ground of desertion for 3 years and upwards. Ethel's second marriage was as Ethel Lucas to John Leeder in 1959 in WA.

In 1921, by the time she was 28 years old, on November 11th, the first burial was held at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington National Cemetery. The body of an unknown soldier - selected by Army Sgt. Edward F. Younger who was highly decorated for valor and received the Distinguished Service Cross in "The Great War" - was brought back from France (World War 1) and placed in the newly completed tomb. President Warren G. Harding officiated at the interment ceremonies.
