    Ethel Smith Winn 1915 - 1994 -- Ethel Winn passed away on Wednesday, December 7, 1994 in Savannah, Georgia. Ethel was born on December 13, 1915 in Philadelphia, PA to Alexander Michael and Esther Lustberg Smith (formally Kovacs). In about 1921 the family moved to Los Angeles, CA where Ethel grew up. Ethel married Elmer Murphy in about 1932 and they divorced a few years later. She then married Bert Lewis, a famous motorcycle racer, but again that marriage was also short lived. On August 21, 1944 Ethel married Harold Jay Winn in Miami, Florida. After WWII ended, Ethel and Harold moved to the San Francisco area and lived there until 1952 when they moved back to Ethel's hometown of Los Angeles. They soon bought a home in Torrance, CA where they lived the remainder of their lives. Ethel enjoyed many sports and was a staunch fan of the L.A. Dodgers. She also enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family. Survivors include: Her daughter, Julie Zapf and husband, Ron of Springfield, GA; her brother, Elmer Smith and wife Kitty of Long Beach, CA; Her sister, Julia Smith of Los Angeles; Her grandchildren, Gregory, Jay and Cheryl Zapf of Springfield, GA and many neices and nephews and in-laws. She was proceeded in death by her husband, Harold, her parents, and brothers, Alex, Joseph and Louis Smith. No funeral or memorial service is planned. Her ashes will be scattered in the waters off Point Fermin, San Pedro, CA in the Spring.
