He was the eighth child born of nine children to Eugene Joseph Henry and Ellen de Pelsenaire. He emigrated from England to Australia in 1923 with his parents together with some of his siblings. His father bought the Burnt Bridge Store in East Ringwood and he lived there with his family until his marriage to Eileen Elizabeth de Pelsenaire (nee Cuttle) in 1935. He spent most of his working life at William Angliss & Co. in Footscray as manager of the Rabbit Department. He was known as Bill to his family and friends.
