  • Personal Life & Family

She was an accomplished swimmer and skier. At 17 she took a job in Munich as assistant and occasional model to Heinrich Hoffmann, who was the Nazi Party’s official photographer. It was at this photographer's studio that she met Adolf Hitler, who was 40, and set her sights on him. He used to say, apropos of women: ‘There’s nothing better than training a young thing’ and a relationship started. After the death of Hitler's half niece in 1931 (with whom he lived), Eva became Hitler's companion. (The niece, Geli Raubal, was ruled to have shot herself.) She attempted suicide twice previous to April, 1945 - once in 1932 where she shot herself and again in 1935 where she overdosed on sleeping pills but recovered . During her relationship with Adolf she is credited with providing him domesticity and relaxation. She is known for not having an interest in politics and spent her time walking her dogs (as shown in a photo here), reading magazines and romantic novels and enjoying films, and exercising to keep her figure. After the failed plot on Hitler’s life in 1944 Eva wrote to him: ‘From the time of our first meetings, I promised myself to follow you anywhere even in death. You know that my whole life is loving you.’ She was never allowed to be seen with Adolf in public nor accompany him to Berlin. In fact, in April 1945 she joined Hitler in Berlin against his orders, determined to stay with him until the end. In recognition of her loyalty he decided to marry her, and the civil ceremony was carried out in the Chancellery bunker just after midnight on April 28th/29th.

3 Memories, Stories & Photos about Eva

There was an actress named Maris Wixton, who appeared in films in the 1940's, who looked quite a bit like Eva Braun. It was not a good time to look like Hitler's girlfriend!

She was not as airheaded as history has made her out to be. She was not oblivious to what was going on around her. She was devious and knew how to maneuver her "boyfriend" and others around her to get what she wanted.
