Evangeline "Vangie" Barrow of Crestview, Fla., passed away at her home on her 65th birthday, July 19, 2011, in the presence of her loving family. She was born in Baker, Fla., to the late Evelyn and Ed Nettles, and began working at the early age of 15 in a sewing factory. She was a productive and valued employee with the Vanity Fair Co., and later Russell Mills. Evangeline was a dedicated wife and mother, not only to her immediate family, but also to her extended loved ones. Along with her husband, Ben Sr., she always made certain there was plenty of food on the table, clean clothes and plenty of love. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husbands, Leroy Hires and Benjamin Barrow Sr.; a son, Ben Jr.; sister, Eva Mae Moa; and brother, John Hughes Jr. Evangeline is survived by a son, Alton Brady Hires of Crestview; daughter, Sandra Renee Hires Reeves, also of Crestview; brother, William Dean Hughes (wife, Kim), of Perry, Fla.; and grandchildren, Stephanie Christine Barrow, Connor Forrest Barrow and Russell Calvin O'Keefe. A time of visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the chapel of Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home in Crestview. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 23, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Live Oak Park Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Whitehurst Powell Funeral Home in Crestview.
