Francis Henry McHugh 1847 - 1937

Francis Henry McHugh was born on July 4, 1847 in Prospect, City of Prospect County, SA Australia to John McHugh and Sarah (Portnell) McHugh, and had siblings Mary Ann (McHugh) Christensen, Jane (McHugh) Gardiner, Edward Henry McHugh, John McHugh, Alice (McHugh) Bugg, and George Thomas McHugh. He married Julia Ann (Higgins) McHugh, and had children Francis Henry McHugh, Herbert Richmond McHugh, Sidney McHugh, and Oliver McHugh. Francis McHugh died at age 89 years old on January 14, 1937 at Gawler South, and was buried at Payneham Cemetery 56 Marian Rd, in Payneham, The City of Norwood Payneham and St Peters County, SA.

  • Introduction

    The Advertiser. Adelaide. 29th January 1937. A son of Mr. John McHugh, who came to South Australia in 1836, Mr. Francis McHugh, of Prospect, died on January 14, aged 89. Before his death he was living with his daughter, Mrs. A. Deickmann, of Gawler. His wife, who pre-deceased him, was before her marriage, Miss Julia Ann Higgins, of Gawler River. Beginning life together at Mallala, they later moved to Pinda, near Wilmington, in 1876 Mr. McHugh was farming there, but after two years he went with the first farmers to the Quorn district where he selected land at Richman's Valley. Mr. and Mrs. McHugh remained there for 40 years. In 1920, Mr. McHugh sold his farm to two of his sons and retired to the Adelaide Hills where he bought a property near Echunga. Mr. McHugh leaves eight children - Mrs. John Anderson ( Echunga ), Mr. H. R. McHugh ( Quorn ), Mrs. O. Deickmann ( Gawler ), Mrs. W. Yates ( Quorn ), Mrs. P. J. Flaherty ( Mile End ), Mr. A. E. McHugh ( Charleston ), Mr. Syd McHugh ( Quorn ), and Mr. Oliver McHugh ( Quorn ).
