    Fredrick Warren Hempstead Jr's is the son of Fredrick W Hempstead Sr (1891-1958) and Mabelle (Skov) Hempstead (1894-1986). Fredrick had a sister Dorothy Hempstead (1923-1992). When Fredrick was 9 and living with his parents in Troy New York, sister Dorothy was 6. They were both in school and their Dad was a "wharf man" at Coke Co. Ten years later, Fredrick was still living at home with his sister and parents, but they were now living in Petersburg, New York. He had graduated from high school and was working as a laborer on a farm, as was Mabel. Dad was still a laborer in a coke factory. A couple of years later, Fredrick, now spelling his name as Frederick, was still living in Petersburg and working for Dr. S.K. Livingston at the US Veterans Hospital in White River Junction, Vermont, but he listed his occupation as "Farmer". His next of kin was his mother, Mable. 21-year-old Frederick was 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighed 146 pounds, had blue eyes, red hair, and a "ruddy" complexion. Frederick Hempstead Jr registered for the draft on July 1, 1941, in Hoosick Falls, New York, when he was 21 years old. At the time of registration, he was employed by Dr. S. K. Livingston. On July 14, 1944, Hempstead enlisted in Albany, New York, as a Selectee (Enlisted Men) in the United States Army during World War II. He was eventually promoted to the rank of Technician 4th Grade, which was a non-commissioned officer rank in the United States Army during World War II. Frederick married Elinora F Jones Hempstead (1924 - 2004) on May 27, 1951, in Albany, New York.
