He had siblings Francis George Heanden, Ethel Harriet Middlecoat, Arthur Herbert Hearnden, Ruby Mabel Hearnden, Harry Hearndon, Archibald John Hearnden, and Charles Hearnden. Frederick Hearnden died at age 77 years old in 1949 in Heidelberg.

In 1872, in the year that Frederick William Hearnden was born, on December 4th, the empty American ship Mary Celeste was found in the Atlantic Ocean. Still seaworthy, under partial sail, and with one lifeboat missing, what happened on her is still a mystery. Her cargo and provisions were intact and she was used as a cargo vessel for another 12 years but the people onboard were never seen again

In 1888, by the time he was 16 years old, on July 25th, a court stenographer from Salt Lake City - Frank Edward McGurrin - decisively beat the competition in a typing contest in Ohio. He was supposedly the only person who used touch typing and is believed to have invented the method. Touch typing is ubiquitous now - but Frank's win is what convinced everyone that the method was good!
