3 Memories, Stories & Photos about Frieda

Frieda was a fellow musician and played the autoharp
I met Frieda and her husband Bob, when I moved to Shingletown, California, about 1980. They were retired then. We attended a little non-denominational church called Shingletown Christian Fellowship. My first husband, Harrison "Sandy" White, and I led the worship at church and Frieda would play her autoharp and Bob played the saw! Yes, the hand saw that you cut wood with! Bob and Frieda became dear close friends and a brother and sister in Christ. We enjoyed our music times together at church as well as we played at local events sometimes, even the Shingletown Fun Day at the local fire department building. Later, when I remarried Orville Murphy in 1992, we continued to do music together, and named our band the "Mountain Morning Band". Sometimes we would lead the Christmas singing at the Shingletown Christmas Tree Lighting. We moved away from Shingletown in 2006. I am searching for Bob's obituary, because I know he passed on to Heaven before Frieda, but I'm happy to know Frieda moved in with their son, John, I believe who lived in Shasta Lake City, north of Redding, where Frieda spent her final days. I hope she is still playing her heavenly autoharp, because she loved the Lord and she played and sang a lot of the old hymns! :) Love and miss you, Frieda. Cheryl Murphy

Her husband Bob played the saw! How absolutely ingenious....a tool that is used to take down things, to build things, then also used to create music. Fascinating. Cheryl, I was able to find a very thin obituary that appeared in 2010 and some more information that I added to this page.

This photo was taken at a restaurant in Red Bluff, California. Our band, the Mountain Morning Band, played in Dec of 1992. From left Bob Weiland poised to play his saw. Then my husband Orville on guitar, Frieda seated in center with her autoharp. Me, Chery Murphy, on banjo, and Fred Chapman on washtub base! Fun memories.

Honeymoon in North After Church Wedding
Miss Frieda Wilma Lange, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Lange, S25 North Avenue Fifty, became the bride of Robert Clifton Wieland, 4847 San Rafael street, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Wieland, of Manton, Thursday, October 6, at 8 p.m., in the Lincoln Heights Baptist church. Rev. Otto Reese read the ceremony before 225 guests. The altar was decorated with baskets of white chrysanthemum and stocks.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a white satin princess style gown. Her long tulle veil was caught with a halo of orange blossoms and extended over the face. She carried a bouquet of white roses and bouvardia, with an orchid in the center.

Margaret Saffell, her sister, matron of honor, wore a gown of turquoise blue taffeta and hat to match. She carried an old fashioned doily bouquet of Talisman roses. The bridesmaids, Olive Niebelschultz, a cousin of the bride, and Betty Jean Young, wore lovely gowns of the same fashion in dusty pink, and blue taffeta, and matching hats. Both carried nosegays of Talisman roses and bouvardia.

Assisting as best man was Earl Rilley, while ushers were George Sinkey and James MacMin.. Mrs. Constance M. Johnson, organist, played the wedding marches and accompanied the soloist, Fannie Lucas, who rendered "The Indian Love Call," "Because," and "I Love You Truly."

The bride is a graduate of Franklin high school, and the groom of Lincoln high school.

A reception was held following the ceremony, in the church social hall. The happy couple are motoring to Manton, Calif., for their honeymoon, to visit the groom's parents who were unable to attend the wedding ceremony. Mr. Wieland's father will be remembered as a former pastor of the Lincoln Heights Baptist church for many years. On their return they will make their home at 1315 Avenue 51, Highland Park.
