George Alexander Waters of Crobally Surgeon R.N., b. 10 Feb 1774, d. 14 Oct 1858 (M.D.O. at St Andrews 1813). On 13 Feb 1774 he was baptised at St Peter’s, Cork. Both George and his wife were buried in the Edwards’ plot in the Abbey Church cemetery, Waterford, separated from the city of Waterford by the river Suir. He married Anne Rebecca Edwards d. 1869, daughter of Eaton Edwards of Newtown, Co. Kilkenny. George the eldest son of John Christopher Waters, and of his wife Anne (nee Platt). He served in the Royal Navy as Surgeon on the HMS Bonetta a 16 gun sloop, resigned in 1797. After more than ten years rejoined being appointed Assist. Surgeon to HMS Trial 6 Jun 1810, (seniority 8 Oct 1808). While not serving in the Navy, he lived in Peter Steet, Waterford, and his house there had the reputation of being haunted. When peace came he retired and was appointed Surgeon at Sick Quarters, Waterford. Anne persuaded him to retire to Tramore where he settled about 1820. In his latter years George became blind.
They had 5 sons and 6 daughters.
