He had siblings Willie Dixon Gulledge, Claudie (Dollie Bell) Gulledge Segars, Mary Sue Gulledge Bynum, Robert Gulledge, Fred Gulledge, and Ida Mae Gulledge. George Gulledge died at age 79 years old on June 5, 1999.

In 1919, in the year that George E (Sim) Gulledge was born, in June, the Treaty of Versailles - officially ending World War I - was signed. The European Allies demanded "compensation by Germany for all damage done to the civilian population of the Allies and their property by the aggression of Germany by land, by sea and from the air.” The requirement of compensation is seen by most as the reason for the collapse of the German economy and gave rise to the rule of Hitler.

In 1945, at the age of 26 years old, George was alive when on January 9th, the (over 8 month long) Battle of Luzon began in the Philippines with the United States and Filipino forces attacking Japanese forces - with the intent to take back control of the Philippines. By March, the Allies had taken control of all of the strategically and economically important locations in the Philippines but pockets of resistance held out until the surrender of Japan in August.
