George Hamilton 1864 - 1943

George Hamilton of Elwood, VIC Australia was born in 1864 in Strathallan to John Hamilton and Sarah (McLean) Hamilton. He married Elizabeth (Galsworthy) Hamilton, and had a child Flora May Hamilton. George Hamilton died at age 78 years old on September 15, 1943 in Elwood, Port Phillip City County, and was buried on September 17, 1943 at Preston Cemetery in Kingsbury, Darebin City County.

In 1864, in the year that George Hamilton was born, on April 22nd, the Coinage Act of 1864 was passed by Congress. It mandated that "In God We Trust" was to be placed on all United States coins and created a 2 cent coin. Later - in 1956 - "In God We Trust" replaced "E Pluribus Unum" - which means out of many, one - as the national motto.

In 1880, at the age of 16 years old, George was alive when on August 26th, P. T. Barnum and James A. Bailey signed a contract in Bridgeport, CT, creating the Barnum & Bailey Circus. Twenty-seven years later, the Barnum and Bailey would merge with another circus, Ringling Brothers.
