OWLS HEAD - George L. Robinson, Sr., 77, died Monday, February 16, 2004 at his home here after an extended illness. Born at St. George, October 19, 1926, he was one of ten children of Charles H. and Myrtle Davis Robinson. Moving to Rockland at a young age, he attended local schools. As a young man, George worked with his father on various road construction projects. During the early World War II years, he worked at Snows Shipyard in Rockland before entering the United States Navy. Most of his Naval service was in the South Pacific aboard the U.S.S. Long Island. Within a year after discharge from the Navy, George entered the United States Army where he served another enlistment. Returning to civilian life, he worked as a carpenter and briefly as a fish cutter at 40 Fathoms Seafood. For more than 17 years, he operated a press at Bonnar Vawter Printing. After the closing of that company, he returned to carpentry, working with the CETA Program and SAD 5, in Rockland. His carpentry ability also found him involved in construction of Coughlin Park Apartments in Rockland. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was a member of the Rockland Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. Besides his wife Judy G. Shorey Robinson of Owls Head, Mr. Robinson is survived by six sons and their wives, George L Jr., and Inge Robinson, of Darm Stahdt, Germany, Charles B. and Tina Robinson of Thomaston, John D.L. Jr., and Wendy Young of Waldoboro, Alden G. and Holly Young of Rockland, James I.
