George Harrison died at age 83 years old on October 3, 1914 in Pomborneit, Corangamite Shire County, VIC Australia.

  • Introduction

    The Camperdown Herald. Victoria, 7th October 1914. Mr. George Harrison, of Mount Porndon, Pomborneit, a resident of the district for about half a century, passed away at his residence on Saturday last, at the age of 83, and on Sunday Mrs. Harrison also died. In the 50's and 60's Mr. Harrison occupied the position of manager at Tandarook, Meningoort and Maridayallock stations alternately. He then joined a company which required land in Western Australia, but the settlement turned out a failure and Mr. Harrison returned to Victoria and selected at Mount Porndon. In 1870 Mr. Harrison joined the staff of the Hampden Shire Council as rate collector and dog and thistle inspector, and some time after was appointed valuer - a post he held for several years. The deceased was a prominent member of the Rechabites' Lodge, a large number of whom marched to the cemetery. The late Mr. Harrison was secretary to the local branch of the British and Foreign Bible Society.
