George William Hose Jr. of Frankston, City of Frankston County, VIC Australia was born on April 12, 1887 in Terang to George William Hose and Catherine Ellen Greaves. He had siblings Ethel Mary Ellen Hose, Albert Arthur Stephen Hose, Minnie Nellie May Hose, Ida Florence Hose, Clifton Peter Hose, Ivy Aphrodite Evelyn Hose, Rupert Horace Hose, Elizabeth Annie Hose, Lloyd Francis Hose, Henry Alfred Hose, Leslie Ivor Hose, Frederick Edward Hose, and Stanley Herbert Hose. He married Alice Louisa Wilson in 1910, and had children Frank William Hose and Claude Reginald Hose. George Hose died at age 96 years old on April 29, 1983 in Frankston.

In 1887, in the year that George William Hose was born, on May 9th, Buffalo Bill's Wild West show opened in London. Founded in 1883, the show was attended - twice - by Queen Victoria and adored by audiences who thrilled to his fanciful acts portraying life in the "Wild West."

In 1907, by the time he was 20 years old, the showman Florenz Ziegfeld introduced his Ziegfeld Follies. Ziegfeld was inspired by the Folies Bergère of Paris and the show was a step up from the then current vaudeville shows. The top entertainers of the time played in the Follies but the stars were the Ziegfeld girls - beautiful chorus girls in elaborate costumes. For almost a quarter of a century, the Ziegfeld follies were the toast of Broadway.
