    1928-2016 Geraldine Speez Vigoda was born on February 27, 1928, daughter of Benjamin Speez and Rose Cohen. She passed away on June 6, 2016, at the age of 88. She was the youngest of a large family, born in Chicago, Illinois. As a young child her family moved to the New York City/Jackson Heights area where she lived most of her life. She enjoyed cultural events including dance and theatre, and enjoyed serving others in various efforts, including teaching English as a second language. Four years ago she graced the Salt Lake City area when she moved here to be near her daughter, Karen. What words can you use to describe our dear Gerri? She brought a ray of sunshine to all she met, greeting nearly everyone with a heartfelt compliment to their beauty. We would all love to hear – just one more time – “You are so beautiful!” She will be sorely missed by the many who loved her. Gerri is survived by her beloved daughter, Karen Lazarr, of Salt Lake City; her favorite, loving brother, Morris Speez; son-in-law, Gary Stagman; and nieces Elissa Beth Ali and Cynthia Silberman-Rosen, all of the New York City area; and dear friend, Janet S. Larson, of Syracuse, Utah. She is preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Janice. A very special thanks to the staff at the Avenues Courtyard Assisted Living Facility in Salt Lake City who treated our Gerri like family and so lovingly cared for her over the last four years. An informal memorial service will take place on June 10, 2016, at 4 p.m. at Evans and Early Mortuary, 574 East 100 South, Salt Lake City, Utah, 84102.

I gave her an angel. Geraldine was my upstairs neighbor. She was distraught when her daughter died and it was even harder on her because she was an atheist and devoid of any spirituality. So she left Jackson heights to go to Salt Lake City.
