Lighting Bugs/Fireflys
Gertrude was my grandmother. I "hit the lottery" being blessed with her as my grandmother. I have so many beautiful stories about her and let me say first that not a finer person has ever crossed my path and I know that no one ever will.
On summer weekends, we would work out in the yard cutting grass and watering flowers. As dusk set in fireflies started making their appearance. They would dance thru the evening. We would catch a few always being very careful not to hurt them when we placed them in the jars we had made ready for them.
At bedtime, I would put them on the nightstand beside me so I could watch them flicker as I fell asleep. Every morning they would gone. When I asked her where they were she said that they were never "ours" to keep. That nature and its beings large and small had lives to live and that we should always respect that. I
