    Gladys was of European origins. Her father was James Lawson Strickland, 1875-1944. James parents were Joseph Hiers Strickland and Susan Highsmith. The were all born in what is now Brantley County, Georgia. The mother of Gladys was Willie Magdalena Barber, 1884-1969. Her parents were Joseph B. Barber and Mary Highsmith. Gladys has a very rich heritage with her Strickland family coming over to settle in Virginia/North Carolina border areas in the 1600s. Her father James Lawson Strickland is the son of Joseph Hiers Strickland who is the son of Levi J Strickland and Martha Hiers. His father is Gabriel Strickland. Gladys married Edward Sparkman Hunter of Raiford, Bradford, Florida. Edward was born in 1900 and died in 1960. He is also buried at Restlawn Memorial Cemetery in Jacksonville, Duval, Florida. The couple had two children Clurren Hunter and La Jean Hunter. Gladys had many nieces and nephews as well as grandchildren.
