  • Introduction

    Gloria Mae (Gentry) Harris was born to Ernest T Gentry and Jennie L Lee. She had siblings Lisle A, Alvin Lee "Bud", baby boy, Gerald Marion, Rosamond, Wilbert E., Clinton Edgar, and Colleen Gentry. Gloria Gentry married Wilford Joseph Schulthess in 1940 and they later divorced. She then married Martin Harris, Jr., (1921 - 1986) on August 4, 1953, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Gloria had children J. Lee Schulthess, Melvin Ray Schulthess, Weston Lee Harris, and Amy Louise Harris. When she passed, she had 25 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She worked at the Wyoming State Hospital as assistant to the comptroller before moving to Salt Lake City in 1962, where she worked for Equitable Life and Casualty Ins. Co. as secretary to the president. With husband Martin, Gloria assumed management of Signal Mt. Lodge in the Grand Teton National Park in 1965, later acquiring ownership.     The following obituary appeared in the Star Valley Independent on February 25, 1993: Harris, Gloria Mae Gentry Gloria Mae Gentry Harris, died Feb 25, 1993 at the Star Valley Hospital in Afton after a courageous battle with cancer. Gloria was born on Sept, 29, 1934 in Panaca NV to Ernest Taylor and Jennie Lee Gentry. She was reared and educated in Nevada. She married Wilford Joseph Schulthess, July 30, 1940; later divorced. She married Martin Junior Harris Aug 4, 1953. That marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She lived in Evanston where she worked at the Wyoming State Hospital as assistant to the comptroller before moving to Salt Lake City in 1962 where she worked for Equitable Life and Casualty Ins. Co. as secretary to the president. With husband Martin assumed management of Signal Mt. Lodge in the Grand Teton National Park in 1965, later acquiring ownership. Owned and operated the Lodge until retirement in 1984. After building a home in Star Valley, Martin died of cancer on Jan 15, 1986. Lifelong active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, filling positions in all auxiliaries and in the ward choirs. Taught cultural refinement classes, spiritual living and home and family ed, taught the gospel doctrine class, worked in old German extraction program and served in Relief Society presidency. she served a mission at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City 1989, 1990 and was president of the Thayne 2nd Ward Relief society. For the past four years served as a temple ordinance worker in the Idaho Falls Temple. Survived by children J. Lee Schulthess, Park City, UT, Melvin Ray Schulthess, Jennings, LA, Weston Lee Harris, Salt Lake City, Amy Louise (Harris) Moser, Bedford, 25 grandchildren and one great granddaughter, seven brothers and sisters.
