Introduction

Gloria Jeanne (Powers) Remy was born to Orion Eugene Powers (1919-1990) and Virginia Pearle (Marsh) Powers (1922-1977). Gloria had a half-brother and a half-sister, Diane and Ronald. In the 1950 federal census, Gloria was two years old and lived with her parents, Gene and Virginia, and her sister Diane (5 years old) and brother Ronnie (3 years old) in Iola Kansas. Her father Gene worked as a body mechanic in a retail car garage. On December 18th 1966 Gloria Powers married Thomas Berry Remy (born 1946), a veteran of the US Army (Vietnam), and they had three children together. The couple ran a bond business for sixteen years before Gloria passed away in 2008. She was survived by her husband Thomas, their son Aaron and daughter Nicole, as well as grandchildren Cameron and Donovan Forshey, of Thornton, Colorado. The following obituary appeared on Sept. 17, 2008 - Iola, KS - Iola Register: Gloria Jeanne Remy, 61, of Arvada, Colorado, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008, at Exempla Lutheran Medical Center. She was born Aug. 14, 1947, in Iola, Kansas, to Gene and Pearle (Marsh) Powers. She attended Iola schools and was graduated in 1965. On Dec. 18, 1966, she was married to Tom Remy in Iola, Kansas. While he was in the military, they lived in Georgia and Virginia. They then made their home in Arvada, Colorado. She had been a partner with her husband in the bond business for the past 16 years. She was an avid reader and puzzle enthusiast. She is survived by her husband; a son, Aaron, Arvada, CO; a daughter Nicole and husband, Daryl Forshey, and grandchildren, Cameron and Donovan Forshey, Thornton, CO; a sister, Diane and husband, Eric Carnes, Reno, NV; a brother, Ronald Powers and wife, Pam, Iola, KS; a sister-in-law, Michelle Klein, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Sept. 11, 1969. Following cremation, a memorial service will be held in Arvada, Colorado at a later date.
