Graham Thistlethwaite of Toorak, City of Stonnington County, VIC Australia was born circa 1882 in emerald hill to Timothy Atkinson Thistlethwaite and Elizabeth Frances (Gorst) Thistlethwaite. He had siblings Walter Thistlethwaite, Ronald Thistlethwaite, Bessie Hilda May Thistlethwaite, Agnes (Thistlethwaite) Macfarlane, and Laurence Wilson Thistlethwaite. He married Ruby Wright Thistlethwaite in 1912, and had children Bessie Thistlethwaite, Russell Graham Thistlethwaite, and Rona Dory Thistlethwaite. Graham Thistlethwaite died at age 66 years old on May 2, 1949 in Tooranie, Murray River Council County, NSW.

"Criminals, the insane, or any person unable to take care of him or herself" were not allowed in the U.S. according to the Act. It also imposed a "head tax" on non-citizens entering the U.S.

He bought a Winton, which he had seen in an advertisement in Scientific American.
