Gus Constantine Summers 1920 - 2007

Gus Constantine Summers of Manassas, Manassas City County, VA was born on December 10, 1920 in Alexandria to Helen Samartzopolous and Anthony Samartzopolous. He had a sibling Tommy Summers. He married Mary Pappas Summers, and had children Nick Summers, Elaine Summers, Gregory Summers, Steve Summers, and Anthony Summers. Gus Summers died at age 86 years old on October 12, 2007 in Manassas, and was buried at Quantico National Cemetery Joplin Road, in Triangle.

    Probably the nicest man you'll ever meet. Even though he grew up during the Great Depression and had little money, he was always willing to give whatever he had to help anyone. Great role model and great human being. I was lucky to have him as my Dad.

In August, Tennessee became the 36th state to ratify the Amendment and it became law eight days later. Mississippi ratified it in 1984.

In 1933, by the time he was only 13 years old, Frances Perkins became the first woman to hold a cabinet-level position, appointed by President Roosevelt to serve as Secretary of Labor. She told him that her priorities would be a 40-hour work week, a minimum wage, unemployment compensation, worker’s compensation, abolition of child labor, direct federal aid to the states for unemployment relief, Social Security, a revitalized federal employment service, and universal health insurance. President Roosevelt approved of all of them and most them were implemented during his terms as President. She served until his death in 1945.
