Harold David Akridge, Sr, was the second-oldest son of Carl Daniel Akridge and his wife, Nora Lee (Kelly) Akridge. He was less than 10 minutes younger than his fraternal twin brother, Carroll Daniel Akridge. Carroll and Harold were born in the small town known as Laney located in Mitchell County, Georgia in 1928. Sometime between 1935 and 1940, Carl Akridge moved his family to Hartsfield, Colquitt County, Georgia, just a few miles from where they were living. Both brothers were quick witted, fun loving, and hard working. Harold joined the Army Air Corp and Carroll joined the Navy at the end of World War II. Both had been working for many years by this time for their father, Carl, who was a blacksmith and automobile mechanic.
After Harold's time in the Army Air Corp, he returned to Colquitt County and married Bobbie Turner. They lived in Moultrie, Colquitt County, Georgia. They had four children. Harold was an automobile mechanic and worked for Wright Motor Company, the local Ford Dealership, before starting his own business with a business partner. At the time of his retirement, he was the sole owner and operator of Akridge Garage in Moultrie, Georgia.
The children of Carl and Nora Akridge are, in birth order: Mabel, Mildred, Hazle, Carroll, Harold, Jack, Lonzo, Robert, and Margaret.
