Hazel Delphine Funk was born on January 25, 1935 in West Virginia United States to Ervin Coy Funk and Anna Pearl (Beatty), and has siblings Afreda Aletta (Funk), Myrtle Aldeen Funk, Sarah Faye Funk, Ernie Coy Funk, Dale David Funk Sr, Inez Virginia Funk, Fred Ray Funk Sr, Raymond Lee Funk Sr, Prentiss Bradley Funk, and Kenneth Paul Funk. Hazel Funk married Thomas David Mcnemar in June 1957, and has a child Kimberly McNemar.

In 1935, in the year that Hazel Delphine Funk was born, on September 8th, Louisiana Senator Huey Long was shot by Dr. Carl Weiss. Weiss was shot and killed immediately by Long's bodyguards - Long died two days later from his injuries. Long had received many death threats previously, as well as threats against his family. He was a powerful and controversial figure in Louisiana politics (and probably gained power through multiple criminal acts). His opponents became frustrated with their attempts to oust him and Dr. Weiss was the son-in-law of one of those opponents. His funeral was attended by 200,000 mourners.

In 1947, on November 25th, the Hollywood "Black List" was created by the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC). Ten Hollywood writers and directors had refused to testify to the Committee regarding "Communists" or "Reds" in the movie industry. The next day, the blacklist was created and they were fired.
