Hazel Hunt died at age 93 years old on May 10, 1996, and was buried at Camp Butler National Cemetery Section K Site 926 R.r. #1 - 5063 Camp Butler Road, in Springfield, Il.

    Hazel Madge Smith was born in cherokee nation in Oklahoma. She had a brother named Homer. They both can be found in the dawes rolls. She married Herbert Scott Hunt and had one son and three daughters. She had 7 grandchildren. My grandmother was proud of her Indian heritage. Before she died she told me about her youth. It still amazes me that she was born in an era of horse and wagon and died in an era of the internet. She lived through the invention of cars, the great depression, the world wars, man on the moon, and all of the history of the last century. She was a talented painter. You could not have asked for a better grandmother. She is loved and greatly missed.

In 1903, in the year that Hazel M Hunt was born, the Ford Motor Company was incorporated in June after Henry Ford left another car company he founded in 1901 (which became the Cadillac Motor Company). He began Ford Motor Company with $28,000 in cash from twelve investors, two of whom (the Dodge brothers) later began their own car company. Henry Ford improved on assembly line techniques and has been so successful that his family still controls a very popular Ford line of cars and trucks.

In 1915, she was just 12 years old when the Superior Court in Fulton County Georgia accepted the charter for the establishment of the new Ku Klux Klan, succeeding the Klan that flourished in the South in the late 1800's. This iteration of the Klan adopted white clothing and used many of the code words from the first Klan, adding cross burnings and mass marches in an attempt to intimidate others.
