Introduction
Lewis was the son of Henry H. and Mary M. {Smith} Clark, being descended on his father's side from a family known to be living in Greenland, New Hampshire in the late 18th century. He left Canada for Hudson, Massachusetts, where he met his wife Sarah Louise Tyler and worked as a trainer of race horses. The couple had two sons, Carl A. and Fred L. Clark. Sadly, Lewis succumbed to typhoid fever in his 37th year. He had been active in the local Knights of Pythias Lodge No. 66 and, as indicated by the outpouring of grief, was well-liked. The Lodge issued a Resolution honoring Lewis at his passing. A nephew, Harry Edwin Lewis, of Providence wrote a poignant poem entitled 'In Memoriam' to honor his uncle.
