Henry Wurzer 1859 - 1935

Henry John Wurzer was born on December 21, 1859 at Log Cabin in Festina, Winneshiek County, Iowa United States to Michael Wurzer and Barbara Gojes (Christmann) Wurzer, and had siblings Mary Wurzer Kerper and Magdalena Anthofer. He was in a relationship with Gertrude (Kerper) Wurzer, and had children Lawrence Wurzer, Colette Miller, Leonilla Wurzer, Ann Wurzer, Barbara Wurzer, Mary Wurzer, Gertrude Wurzer, Frances Wurzer, John Wurzer, and Henry Wurzer. Henry Wurzer died at age 75 years old on March 19, 1935 at St. Anthony Hospital in Willey, Carroll County, and was buried circa March 21, 1935 at St. Mary's Church in Willey.

    Henry came to Carroll County in 1874 as a first white settler. He spent his boyhood days on a farm in Fayete County. In 1874 he came with his parents in covered wagons to Carroll County where his father (Michael Wurzer) bought land and became the first settler in the County. He and Gertrude had a double wedding with Gertrude's brother (John Kerper) to Henry's sister (Mary Wurzer). It was the first wedding service in the little wooden church at Willey, IA (which was donated by Henry's father). He retired from farming in 1916. 10 children On 10/16/1933, he and Gertrude celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.
