Herbert died after being hit by a car on the Heidelberg Road in Fairfield in the County of Bourke, he died of his injuries en route to the Royal Hospital, Melbourne, Australia on the 9th August 1935. He was buried in the Melbourne General Cemetery, Carlton on the 10th August 1935. He left a wife Mary, 2 daughters Dorothy Margaret and Eileen, and 3 sons, Ediss, Herbert Alexander and Frederick

I have researched this part of the Bascombe family and have the full written history plus a few select photographs of relatives, but sadly not of Herbert senior. Herbert senior is my husbands great grandfather who went to Australia around 1886. The story is sad, and I would love to tell it! Herbert was born in 1862 in Melksham, Slough, Hampshire, England. He married a Mary Donoghue in 1894 in Victoria, Australia. Please contact me for the full details, I would be happy to share them.
