On June 5, 1942 he married Mabel Laura Morrison (1922–2007) in Roswell, Chaves County, New Mexico. The couple had two daughters together including Linda Frances Isbell (1925-2008). The couple later divorced on October 2, 1973. Herman then re married on May 25, 1978 in Irion County, Texas to Brenda S. Ashbrook.
