    HILLIS ALLEN is my Maternal(Mollie Hill) Grandfather...Born In Linden, Texas African-Americans Had no Birth Certificate in the late 1890's...I will research for a more accurate Birth year...He died in 1938. Only 2 of his 20+ Grandchildren ever got to see him alive. Even then, they were very young(Edwin Rutherford/Marion Ford). As Mollie's Daughter(Jacqueline-jackie Hill) all I know of Grandaddy Hillis is a photo Mollie has and stories of him from all the other very "animated" members of the family...He was a very industrious man, who acquired land from his Father, Thomas(Tom) Allen, said to be a Caucasian Attorney from Linden(Cass County) Texas. I will continue to scour public records to locate Hillis's Mother's Name. At the time of Hillis's Birth, "Segregration" was a way of life and "Interacial Marriage", against the law. On a U.S. Census Report in 1930, Hillis's race is listed as "Mulatto". Hillis had a Sister (same parents) Charity Allen, who moved with Hillis/Ora(Wife) and the ALLEN children from Linden Texas to Naples, TX..The ALLEN Family led a very comfortable life. The ALLEN Family also owned a combo cafe/general store/dance hall. The common dance halls in rural areas were referred to as "juke joints" and were very profitable selling meals as well...
