He married Maud Esther Urquhart in 1909, and had children Doris Myrtle Jones, Edna Claudia Margaret Jones, Phyllis Maud Jones, and Eric Victory Jones. Horace Jones died at age 80 years old on April 1, 1966 in Bentleigh, City of Glen Eira County.

A gift from France, the base for the statue had been built using donations from the American public. So the Japan fleet launched a surprise attack on the Russian Navy and a one year war began. President Roosevelt of the United States brokered peace between the two nations. It was the first time in the modern era that an Asian power showed its dominance over a European power.
