Maud Esther (Urquhart) Jones of Melbourne, VIC Australia was born on August 9, 1886 in Adelaide, SA to Elizabeth Layton Urquhart and John Bailey Urquhart. She had siblings Horace Edward Urquhart, Richard Layton Urquhart, Margaret Theresa (Urquhart) Stephens, and John Bailey Urquhart. She married Horace Claude Jones in 1909, and had children Doris Myrtle Jones, Edna Claudia Margaret Jones, Phyllis Maud Jones, and Eric Victory Jones. Maud Jones died at age 83 years old on June 29, 1970 in Melbourne, VIC.

In 1886, in the year that Maud Esther Urquhart was born, on June 13th, the "Great Vancouver Fire" destroyed most of Vancouver, British Columbia. A small brush fire got out of control and spread to the rest of the city. Dozens of people died and it was only after the fire that money was raised for a fire hall. The local Squamish tribe rescued people who had jumped into bodies of water to escape the conflagration.
