Florida is nest of litterbugs
To the Editor:
I am visiting. I am not here to knock Florida. I also would like apologize to Floridians in advance; my intention is certainly not to offend.
Upon driving into Florida I observed the different plant life along the roadways with great interest. It was unbelievably beautiful. Also unbelievable was the unbroken stream of litter strewn along the side of the highway, by far the worst that I have ever witnessed. It is as if the area of Florida that I have seen so far is being used as one gigantic dumping ground.
It is sad. It is unbelievable to me that there could be that many slobs in one place, be they local slobs, or out-of-state slobs. This stream of litter offends the senses and does much to spoil an otherwise delightful experience. i even had the urge to grab a bag and pick up litter along the roadway. I have only refrained from doing so for fear they would lock me up as some sort of Michigan loony.
How great it would be if all Floridians would be aware of this serious blight on their beautiful state. Now and then, grab a bag and pick up some of this litter that the slobs have deposited. I also would encourage the authorities to enforce the litter laws with gusto. Slobs should be made to pay through the nose.
Before you say it, I will say, sure, Michigan has its share of littering slobs. That doesn't make the problem any easier to bear. Florida is much too beautiful to allow it to be spoiled. + Howard H. Tarjeft, Trenton Michigan.
