He had siblings Annetta Cooney, James Michael Cooney, Thomas Cooney, Mary Hannah Cooney, Catherine Grace Cooney, Francis Joseph Cooney, John Joseph Cooney, and Edward Augustine Cooney. Hubert Cooney married Nellie Mckinnon in 1912, and died at age 75 years old on April 12, 1951 in East Melbourne.
