Iris Myrtle (Cordy) Carter of Footscray, City of Maribyrnong County, VIC Australia was born on December 28, 1903 in Footscray to Agnes Davidson Legg and Joseph Cordy. She had siblings Ivy Davidson Cordy and Charles Stanley Cordy. She married Joseph Carter in 1927, and had a child Ian Ronald Carter. Iris Carter died at age 77 years old on June 16, 1981 in Footscray.

In 1903, in the year that Iris Myrtle Cordy was born, two brothers, Orville and Wilbur Wright, flew the first powered heavier-than-air plane. They flew 4 times in one day - the longest flight lasting 59 seconds and a little over 852 feet. While the brothers had notified several newspapers of their attempt, only one - a local paper - covered it. After their 4th flight, a gust of wind caught the plane, turned it over, and totaled it.
