Jack Johnson was the Heavyweight Boxing Champion in 1910 and he wanted to race Barney Oldfield, who was the most famous race car driver of the era. The race did occur but I can't find who won - do you know?

Thank you John - your link was very informative! Turns out that Jack Johnson was a heck of a driver but no match for a professional driver since Barney Oldfield won 2 of three heats. Oldfield took chances on the curves that Johnson wasn't willing to (or able to) take!

Jack Johnson and his first wife, Etta. Jack Johnson was the world heavyweight boxing champ from 1908 through 1915. He was married 3 times - each time to a white woman, which was of course unusual at the time.

Etta Terry Duryea (pictured) was his first wife. She committed suicide in 1912, about 1 year after they were married.
