Jack's wife Betty Walters, worked with me in the office at the Sugar factory in Nyssa. Jack operated huge construction machinery, such as land-levelers. He was tall and debonair, and such a kind and mischievous, gentle man. I always enjoyed his company at the occasional dinners or other gatherings. One morning Jack knocked on my back door near the Owyhee River outside of Adrian; he had my very young son Cameron tagging along. It seemed Jack had been leveling the field next to our house when he spotted Cameron playing with HIS vehicles in the field as well - giving dear Jack a near heart attack! It was so jarring to me too, especially, because one of my dad's brothers, my Uncle Don Schwarz was killed when one of those monstrous machines ran over him when he was sitting down eating lunch, as how I remember the story went, from Dec. 1963.
Jack and Betty Walters lived on Reece Avenue in Nyssa, not far from Betty's good friend Lois Miner, also on Reece on the other side and a few houses down, I think. They'd ride to the office together quite frequently. Lois and her husband Lyle are still there on Reece and could tell anyone much more about Jack and Betty Walters than I can!
