    James Anthony Lane was born to James A. Lane (1866 - 1945) and Minnie Clark (born 1877). His father was born in Iowa as was his mother. James had eight siblings, including Raymond, Lena, Minnie, John T., Sylvia, and three others. James Lane married on January 28, 1937 in Papillion, Nebraska. James was a veteran of World War II. He enlisted in the United States Navy on May 20, 1942 and he was discharged on November 7, 194 and served as a Lieutenant.

In 1915, in the year that James Anthony Lane was born, in May, the RMS Lusitania was sunk by a German torpedo. The Lusitania was a British passenger ship that was sailing from New York to Liverpool England. She sank in 18 minutes - 1,198 died and 761 survived. While travelers were the main casualty - and commodity - the Lusitania did carry wartime weapons. "Remember the Lusitania" became the rallying cry of World War 1.
