    Birth: Mar. 30, 1923 Boone County Iowa, USA Death: Sep. 23, 2014 Clinton Clinton County Iowa, USA James B. Platter, 91, of Clinton, passed away, Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at the Alverno. Memorial Services will be 10:30am Monday, September 29, 2014 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes & Crematory. Burial will be in the Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 to 6:00pm at the funeral home. James Barton Platter was born on March 30, 1923 in Des Moines Township, Boone County, Iowa, the son of James and Geraldine (Main) Platter. He married JoAnn Anderson on December 31, 1947 in Boone, Iowa; she died May 15, 2008. Jim was a 1941 graduate of Boone High School. He served in the United States Navy during World War II as an Airman from 1943-1946 Jim worked as a switchman on the Chicago Northwestern Railroad and then as a electrician with the IBEW, relocating his family to Clinton in 1966. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Jim is survived by sons: James Robert (Darlene) Platter of Lakeland, Florida and Curtis Alan (Karen) Platter of Clinton, Iowa; his daughter: Melinda (Grover) Cave of Princeton, Kentucky, 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren: one great-great granddaughter and one sister-in-law: Beverly Jones of Harlingen, Texas. In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother: Garland. Memorials can be made as the family wishes.
