Studentbody President, Grant High School, Portland, OR.
In the Spring of 1944 Jim graduated Grant high school, leaving as Student body President, and joined the Marines to defend his country during WWII. I entered the school as a Freshman that fall and was a fan of his, having attended Grant football games at the Portland stadium, while a grade school senior. I can still visualize he and Sam Gillette as Cheer Leaders in '43.
He was wounded while wading toward shore from a landing barge in the attack on the island of Okinawa, he caught a bullet in the spine, loosing both legs. He died from complications June 12, 1949.
I have paid my respects at his grave site #4911800 Se Mt. Scott Blvd., Portland, Or. on occasions
I will be 94 in less than a month. I served my country four years during wartime. Some memories and respects you carry with you to the end.
