He married Frances Jane (Howlett) Judd in 1885, and had children James Daniel "Jim" Judd, Christopher Judd, Thomas Judd, Ethel May (Judd) Evans, Florence Louisa (Judd) Judge, Reuben Judd, Laura Judd Kennedy, Hilda Judd, Vera Evelyn Judd, Della Bedelia Judd, and Francis Osborne "Frank" Judd. James Judd died at age 73 years old on March 27, 1935 in Scarsdale.

In 1862, in the year that James Daniel Judd was born, British citizen Anna Leonowens, a widow, accepted a job in Siam (now Thailand) to teach the children and wives of the King of Siam - he had 39 wives and concubines and 82 children. Taking her son with her and sending her daughter to England for schooling, she taught in Siam for 6 years - until the King died.
