James Joseph Haughey 1882 - 1966

James Joseph Haughey of Nort Australia was born in 1882 in Woodford, VIC to John Haughey and Ann Londrigan Haughey. He had siblings Michael Mathew Haughey, Ann Cecelia (Haughey) Williams, John Haughey, Catherine Haughey, Bridget Elizabeth Haughey, David William Haughey, and Daniel Haughey. James Haughey died at age 83 years old on January 7, 1966 in Northcote, City of Darebin County, and was buried at Springvale Botanical Cemetery 600 Princes Hwy, in Springvale, City of Greater Dandenong County.

In 1882, in the year that James Joseph Haughey was born, on January 5th, writer and lawyer Charles J. Guiteau was found guilty of the assassination of President Garfield. Guiteau was "offended" because his job applications had been rejected by Garfield's government. He was sentenced to death -although his lawyer plead insanity - and hanged five months later, on June 30th.

In 1894, when he was only 12 years old, large reserves of oil were discovered on the Osage Indian reservation in Oklahoma. Previously thought to be "useless" land - not even good for farming - the tribe had bought the land themselves. The discovery of oil made the Osage the "richest group of people in the world" at the time.
