James Joseph Whiteside 1924 - 1993

James Joseph Whiteside was born on April 21, 1924 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania United States to Ethel Mae Whiteside and Winston William Whiteside Sr., and had a brother Winston William Whiteside Jr.. He was the parent of James Richard Whiteside, Glenn Kenneth Whiteside, Cheryl Lou Jones, and William Walter Whiteside. He married Louise Maria Whiteside in 1957 in Pitman, Gloucester County, New Jersey, and they were married until James' death on November 4, 1993 in Clementon, Camden County. They had a child Yvonne Theresa Giovannitti.

In 1924, in the year that James Joseph Whiteside was born, in May, wealthy college students Nathan Leopold and Richard Loeb kidnapped and killed 14 year old Robert Franks "in the interest of science". Leopold and Loeb thought that they were intellectually superior and that they could commit the perfect crime and not be caught. They were brought in for questioning within 8 days and quickly confessed. Clarence Darrow was hired as their defense lawyer, getting them life imprisonment instead of a death sentence. Loeb was eventually killed in prison - Leopold was released after 33 years, dying of a heart attack at age 66.
