Winston William Whiteside Jr. of Southampton, Bucks County, Pennsylvania United States was born on July 29, 1927 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County to Ethel Mae Whiteside and Winston William Whiteside Sr.. He had a brother James Joseph Whiteside. He married Lois Helen Whiteside in 1952 in Willow Grove, Montgomery County, PA, and they were married until Winston's death on April 4, 2001 in Southampton, Bucks County. He had children Winston William Whiteside III, Holly Lynn Ames, and Robin Willa Stauffer. Winston Whiteside was buried on April 9, 2001 at Lawnview Cemetery 500 Huntingdon Pike, in Rockledge, Montgomery County.

    Winston William Whiteside Jr. of Southampton,Pennsylvania died Wednesday,April 4,2001 at his residence. He was 73 years old. Winston was born July 29,1927 in Philadelphia,Pennsylvania,son of the late Winston W. Whiteside Sr. and the late Ethel Whiteside (nee Whittle). He is the beloved husband of Lois H. (nee Esler) Whiteside; Father of Winston W. Whitside III and his wife Janet,Holly L. Ames and her husband Thomas,and Robin W. Stauffer and her husband Stanley Jr. He will be sadly missed by his seven grandchildren Winston W. Whiteside IV,Bryan C. Whiteside,Andrew C. Ames,Heather L. Ames,Heidi A. Ames, ''Rusty'' Stauffer and Winston T. Stauffer. Winston was a Navy Veteran serving both on active duty and with the Navy Reserves. He was called to duty for the Korean Conflict. Mr. Whiteside retired from the Reserves in 1975 as a Chief Petty Officer. He was a retiree of the Philadelphia Gas Works after 35 years. Mr. Whiteside was a Sunday School teacher at Davisville Baptist Church in Southampton and at Suburban Grace Brethren Church in Hatboro. Relatives and friends were invited to call Monday,April 9,2001,from 12:00 to 1:00 P.M. at the Wetzel and Son Funeral Home,501 North Easton Road,Willow Grove. Relatives and friends were invited to his funeral service Monday,April 9,2001,at 1:00 P.M. at the Wetzel and Son Funeral Home. Interment at Lawnview Cemetery,Rockledge followed the funeral service.

In 1927, in the year that Winston William Whiteside Jr. was born, the first "talkie" (a movie with music, songs, and talking), The Jazz Singer, was released. Al Jolson starred as a cantor's son who instead of following in his father's footsteps as expected, becomes a singer of popular songs. Banished by his father, they reconcile on his father's deathbed. It was a tear-jerker and audiences went wild - especially when they heard the songs. Thus begun the demise of silent films and the rise of "talkies".

In 1934, Winston was only 7 years old when on June 6th, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission was formed as a response to the stock market crash of 1929 and the continuing Great Depression. Previously, the states regulated the offering and sales of stocks - called "blue sky" laws. They were largely ineffective. Roosevelt created a group (one member was Joseph Kennedy, father of the future President Kennedy) who knew Wall Street well and they defined the mission and operating mode for the SEC. The new organization had broad and stringent rules and oversight and restored public confidence in the stock market in the United States.
