Incredible Story to Share
We regret to inform the readers of this online profile that the retired, professional pilot listed here, James M. Paton, was severely injured while defending a complete stranger and her infant child from an attack by a heavily armed, psychotic maniac in Texas. After receiving nine, .45-caliber bullet wounds, with one bullet striking James in the left side of his face, he was then stabbed three times in the abdomen by the shooter. Incredibly, James was able to overpower, disarm and restrain the 6’ 6”, 250-pound perpetrator until police arrived. As the responding officers fought to take the offender into custody, James was seen removing his leather belt and attempting to use it as a tourniquet to stop the profuse bleeding from one leg before he collapsed onto the pavement. James was then flown by rescue helicopter to a nearby trauma unit where he lingered for several days before succumbing to his injuries. James was later interred in plot 13 within the new addition of Oak Grove Cemetery in Nacogdoches, Texas. Thank you for letting us share this incredible story.
