Frances Colquhoun Shannon (steam loom weaver) was born in Tyrone, Ireland 1833 to
Robert Shannon (Flax grower) (Ardstraw, Co Tyrone, Northern Ireland) (and possibly Elizabeth Johnston, as eldest daughter's name is Elizabeth Johsnton Nelson).
Frances had a sister Mary, who would show up on the Scotland 1850 census with Frances at Stonehouse (a large boarding house near the Blantyre cotton mills), Blantyre, Scotland (also listed was William Cather and family, the name Cather would also turn up on Frances husband Jacob's death certificate).
Frances was married to Jacob Alexander Nelson 1853 in Blantyre, Lanarkshire, Scotland (Historian states this is unusual as there were no marriages in Blantyre at the time) (marriage bann marked as '3 days in province). (family name also listed as Neilson in Scottish census)
Jacob was born 1823 (Scotland census 1860, 1870) or 1825 (death certificate).
Jacob Nelson worked at the Quarter mine, The Quarter, Hamilton (address Darngaber Row (Scotland Census, was a place rented to local Quarter mine workers).
Jacob's father listed on death certificate as George Nelson and mother as Isabella (Cather?), both common names for several generations later in the family.
Jacob and Frances would have 13 children (Frances death certificate) at the time of Jacobs death in Darngaber Row, The Quarter (dysentery - 6 days), only 4 children survived - George Alexander (1854-1920), Elizabeth Johnston Brown (nee Nelson) (1857 - 1922), William (1863 - 1902) and Isabella Hogg nee Nelson (1869 - 1934).

1893 - Frances, George, Agnes and children would follow George's brother William to Mount Kembla, it was thought this was because of lack of employment in Romsey. George worked as a blue stone mason and helped erect the then protestant church at Mount Kembla.
